Don't miss this presentation of an historical event that brought Wichita to the forefront of the country. In July 1958, Black students gathered at Wichita's Dockum Drugstore to stage a peaceful protest against unequal practice of segregation. This presentation discusses the details fo the sit-in, explores how these protests helped transform the struggle for racial equality, and considers contemporary non-violent protests.

Prisca Barnes is the founder and CEO of Storytime Village, Inc., a nonprofit organization that supports children's literacy. Prior to her work as CEO of Storytime Village Inc., Prisca was the Executive Director of the Kansas African American Museum in Wichita. She holds a MA in Communications and is a proud native of Wichita, KS. She joined the Humanaties Kansas Speakers Bureau in 2018.
