Great Blog for Genealogy Tips

July 28, 2021 5:58 AM | Gary Clark (Administrator)

I recently had the opportunity to contribute to a blog article written for GenealogyBank. The article was titled "Genealogy Tip: What a Gravestone Tells Us – Grave Markers", an area which I have done research on. The article is really well done with some great images.

The free blog offers great articles with useful genealogy tips, click on ALL to see others.  GenealogyBank is an online genealogical resource featuring a wealth of exclusive material-including modern obituaries and historical newspapers, books, pamphlets, military records, government documents and more.

Gary, thank you for writing your great book on visiting cemeteries. It is very well done. I had to laugh when I read the title "What a Gravestone Tells Us - Grave Markers." I recently made a visit to Mount Carmel, IL to visit for the first time the cemetery one of my 3rd Great Grandparents are buried. The cemetery was extremely well engineered, so it was very easy to find their resting place. Apparently from a storm many decades ago, the grandmother's headstone was blown over and slightly damaged. My thanks to the caretakers that stood the headstone back up. Unfortunately, they weren't paying attention and faced her headstone the wrong direction. Now the grandfather is facing east, and the grandmother is facing west. So what do those gravestones tell everyone? I have no intent to be disrepectful, but that is funny?
